Editorial Policy

How we research, source, and review what we publish, and the standards we hold our guides to.

How we create our content

Our guides are researched before they are written and aim to be clear, practical, and honest. Where a topic touches child development, sleep, or behaviour, it draws on the work of educationist Dr Annette Lotter and on reputable external research. We would rather give a careful, qualified answer than an overconfident one.

Sourcing and citations

When we state a fact or a finding, we attribute it. We link to primary or authoritative sources where they are publicly available, and we do not invent statistics, studies, dates, or quotes to fill a gap. Findings specific to Majors for Minors come from Dr Lotter’s research and reports, which are documented on our research page.

Accuracy and corrections

We aim to be accurate and to keep guidance current. If you spot an error or something that reads as misleading, tell us and we will review it and correct it where needed. Material updates to a guide are reflected in its published date.

Health and wellbeing claims

Our content describes general, observed benefits of music for calm, focus, and sleep. It is not medical advice and does not diagnose or treat any condition. Music supports a routine; it does not replace safe-sleep practices or professional care. For any health, sleep, or developmental concern, speak with your doctor or clinic.

Independence and how we are funded

Majors for Minors is a music collection, and our guides naturally recommend our own albums where they fit. The albums stream free on the major platforms; we do not sell them directly on this site and we do not run paid affiliate links. We say plainly when we are pointing you to our own music, and we try never to overstate what it can do.

Who guides our content

Much of what we publish about music and child development draws on educationist Dr Annette Lotter, who studied how structured classical music affects learning and behaviour and carried out full-time research on Majors for Minors at Rand Afrikaans University.
